Four-match ban for AC Milan's Gattuso

February 21, 2011 10:58 pm | Updated 10:58 pm IST - NYON, Switzerland

UEFA has banned AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso for four matches after he head-butted a Tottenham coach at a Champions League match.

UEFA said Gattuso assaulted Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan after the final whistle in Milan.

Gattuso earlier grabbed at Jordan’s throat in a separate sideline clash during the round-of-16 first leg match last Tuesday. Tottenham won 1-0.

UEFA charged Gattuso with “gross unsporting conduct” and its disciplinary panel imposed the ban on top of a one-match suspension for receiving yellow cards, which already ruled him out of the March 9 return in London.

Gattuso, who captained Milan, must serve the ban in UEFA’s Champions League or Europa League competitions. He can appeal within three days.
