Everton dented Manchester United’s hopes of winning a fourth straight Premier League title with a deserved 3-1 win over the champions on Saturday.
Dimitar Berbatov put United ahead on 18 minutes but Diniyar Bilyaletdinov smashed in the equalizer before Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell scored second-half goals to seal the win.
United remains one point behind Chelsea in second place, but the London side can extend their lead by winning at Wolves later on Saturday.
It was United’s first defeat in nine matches but one that hardly looked likely when Berbatov put them ahead early on.
But United were never at their best and their defence left Bilyaletidinov alone 25 metres from goal and he made them pay with a superb strike.
With Wayne Rooney isolated, Everton were the better side throughout the second half and Gosling put them ahead on 75 minutes before Rodwell slotted in the third as the 90 minutes came to an end.
