Justice Sen cracks the whip, asked Verma to resign

NEW DELHI: Justice (Retd.) Vikramajit Sen, the Delhi High Court-appointed administrator of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), has asked Siddharth Sahib Singh Verma to resign as the convenor of the North Zone junior selection committee.

This is the first major directive from Justice Sen since being named administrator in January.

It may be recalled that in April, following the North Zone junior selection committee meeting here, Verma had pointed out that Delhi’s representative, former opener Ashu Dani had misbehaved during the course of the meeting.

In response, Dani alleged that it was Verma who, in the role of a convenor, was pushing for certain names who had not even played this season.

This led to an enquiry that has apparently indicted Verma, who is also in-charge of DDCA’s cricket operations.

On Friday, Verma sent out a press statement which revealed that he had received a call from lawyer Mrinalini Sen Gupta (daughter of Justice Sen) conveying that Justice Sen wanted him to resign from the post of convenor in the light of some “damaging observations” (against Verma) in the report.

Verma, on his part, was clear that he did not wish to resign for the reason mentioned by Ms Sen Gupta. However, Verma ended his long mail to Justice Sen by seeking to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Justice Sen confirmed that Ms Sen Gupta was asked to convey the inference of the enquiry committee to pave the way for Verma's dignified exit from the DDCA.
