More than a thousand players from 14 countries have registered for the Indian Premier League’s player auction, to be held in Jaipur on Dec.18, ahead of the T20 league’s 12th season.
According BCCI acting-secretary Amitabh Choudhary’s statement, 771 Indian and 232 overseas players have enrolled themselves for the auction. However, with a maximum of 70 spots available for all eight teams combined, the final auction list is likely to shrink at least by a third by next week.
All the franchises have been asked to submit their shortlist from the list of 1,003 by Dec. 10, ahead of the auction. With the addition of nine new teams in domestic cricket, the auction may see, for the first time, cricketers from Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Puducherry going under the hammer.
The auction, just like the previous mini-auctions, will be a one-day affair with a majority of teams neither having slots nor the funds to go big.
Kings XI Punjab is set to go on a buying spree as it has released players in plenty ahead of the auction.
