Much like the shots he mostly plays, Rishabh Pant could not have timed his Test debut better, feels Bhaskar Pillai.

As someone who has worked with him for the last couple of seasons as the Delhi coach, he is delighted that Pant got the break while still very young.

“It was great to watch him bat on Saturday night; I got back to my hotel room at Madurai just in time,” Bhaskar, who is coaching India Green at the Duleep Trophy here, told The Hindu here on Sunday.

“I am glad that Pant played his natural game. To hit the second ever ball you face in a Test for a six is something not many would even consider.

“The only thing I have asked him to do is to be more selective in shot selection,” he said.

“I think he could be an ideal understudy to M.S. Dhoni.”
