Sachin Tendulkar heaped praise on the current Indian team which has had a stellar run in Test cricket over the last two years.
Speaking at the Madras Motor Race Track here on Sunday, Tendulkar said: “I have always believed in this team. I had said earlier that this team is going to play together for a long long time to come and dominate world cricket.”
India has been unbeaten in its last 19 Tests, a new record, and will look to continue the run through the four-Test series against Australia starting on Thursday.
The cricketing legend also credited the presence of genuine all-rounders that has helped the team reach the top of the ICC Test rankings.
“We have some amazing players. It is the right balance of having good all-rounders. There are batters who can bowl and bowlers who can bat. There are two wicketkeepers (Saha and Parthiv) who have gone out and scored runs. To be able to do that changes the balance of the team. We are seeing the results. It is all about preparation. Results always follow preparation and the preparation has been good. I am enjoying the way guys have played.”
India’s unbeaten run dates back to August 2015, when it scored a 278-run win over Sri Lanka in the second Test at Colombo before going onto win the third and final Test too and clinch the series 2-1.
Since then India posted series wins against South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, England and more recently against Bangladesh in the one-off Test.
When asked if the current team under Virat Kohli can be called the best Indian side, Tendulkar said: “I think each era and generation played cricket differently and there were different styles.
“For this generation, I would say it’s a fabulous achievement. But when it comes to comparison, I don’t think we should pick a team from 1950s, 1970s and 1980s and start comparing.
“Each generation played in different era and that should be respected. We should enjoy what these guys are doing and must extend full support.”
