Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul’s comments on a TV show on Sunday have invited the displeasure of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The players were slapped with a show-cause notice on Wednesday, which demanded an explanation from them.
The comments made on the talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’ received a lot of flak on social media for being sexist and misogynist and evoked an apology from Hardik.
The Board took strong exception to the conduct of the young cricketers. “They are considered role models and this is no way to behave. These two have tarnished the image of the BCCI and the team,” a senior Board official said.
Not well received
The show-cause notice, sent by the two-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), comprising Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji, has conveyed to the two players that some of their comments were not well received within the Board.
“Being contracted players of the BCCI, they knew their responsibilities. Their actions have reflected poorly on the BCCI. They have been asked to explain their comments and conduct on the show,” said the official.
The two cricketers, currently on tour in Australia with the Indian team, have 24 hours to reply to the notice. Hardik did not figure in the Test series against Australia but is a prominent member of the team for the ODI series, beginning in Sydney on January 12.
