Robert Fernandes’s unbeaten 119 (162b, 6x4, 2x4) and his 202-run partnership for the third-wicket in 46.2 overs with S. Murali (89, 147b, 8x4) for IOB against India Pistons set up a thrilling finish at the CPT-IP ground on Tuesday, the third day of the fourth round, in the TNCA first division cricket league.
Set a target of 336, India Pistons finished at 189 for seven in 70 overs in its second innings. Prashant Ramkumar chipped in with 49, while R. Srinivasan scored 47.
Five points for Vijay
Vijay grabbed five points against Globe Trotters in a key duel at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ‘A’ ground. Vijay declared its first innings at 360 for eight after taking a lead of 95. K. Shri Vasudeva Das (56, 94b, 8x4) and V. Yomahesh (64, 100b, 2x6, 7x4) shone with the willow. Trotters was 137 for two in its second innings when the match was called off.
Despite Ra. Aravind’s defiant 115 (193b, 16x4) and his 171-run association in 56.2 overs for the fourth wicket with Bilva Prasad 80 (228b, 8x4), T.I. Cycles collapsed from 230 for three to 286 all out to lose the battle for the lead against Young Stars at the Murugappa ground. For Young Stars, off-spinner Malolan Rangarajan scalped four.
Paceman L. Vignesh (four for 64) played his part in UFCC (T. Nagar) securing the lead over Indian Bank at MAC. N.S. Chaturved (56, 165b, 8x4) and T. Selvaganapathy (71, 252b, 9x4) offered some resistance, but Indian Bank folded up for 253.
At the RKM-Viveka ground, Grand Slam, pursuing Alwarpet’s 302 for the lead, was bowled out for 252.
