Salary structure-related discussions between the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and Virat Kohli, M.S. Dhoni and Ravi Shastri in New Delhi on Thursday have not gone down well with the majority of the BCCI members.
None of the office-bearers was invited for the meeting. The BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary is seized of the matter of preparing a revised pay, so also the Finance Committee chairman, Jyotiraditya Scindia — both for the national and domestic players.
Claims galore
BCCI members are anxious about the potential liability of ₹4,952 crore, on different accounts, turning into a reality. The BCCI is facing cases pertaining to a claim of ₹2,420 crore from the Enforcement Directorate for alleged FEMA violation when the IPL 2009 was played in South Africa, ₹1,250 crore related to legal cases (Kochi Tuskers Kerala and World Sport Group), ₹540 crore claim from the IT department, ₹600 crore from the Sales Tax department, ₹90 crore from the Service Tax office and ₹52 crore from Competition Commission of India (CCI).
“They (Kohli, Dhoni and Shastri) did not talk about numbers, how much money should the players be paid etc. Looks like Anil Kumble’s proposal will be tweaked a bit. And the CoA also know that they have to take into account the BCCI liabilities. There is also the issue of what constitutes 26% of Gross Revenue Share (GRS),” revealed someone who attended the meeting.
