Deccan Chargers leg-spinner Amit Mishra is determined to script another success story in the 2012 Indian Premier League starting on April 4.
For someone who was among the top five wicket-takers in the last edition with a tally of 19, this soft-spoken leggie believes that the added responsibility of being the frontline spinner for his team should not unduly affect his performances.
“I look at this as a challenge and will not be found wanting in commitment and hard work” he said in a chat with The Hindu .
“In any format, you have to get the basics right to be successful. And, I believe even in T20, it is skills which matter rather than mere reputation. If you get everything in place, then you are bound to be successful,” elaborated the leading wicket-taker for Chargers last year. “Most of the T20 wickets that will be prepared for the IPL are likely to be batsmen-oriented. So you have to be really good in the art of spin bowling,” he said.
“If you take up the challenge of improving with every match, then you tend to be a different bowler. I take it that way and all that I am looking for is a decent start which should help my team get off on a winning note,” said Mishra whose best IPL figures were a match-winning four for nine against Kings' XI Punjablast season.
When asked about the biggest challenge he faces when bowling in a T20 game he said, “In any game at any level you have to stay focused. And in a T20 game, the dual task of containing and at the same time taking wickets is an uphill task. It is not impossible but it needs a lot of effort and a bit of luck too,” he assessed.
