Resigning redundant: TNCA official

January 05, 2017 02:12 am | Updated 02:12 am IST - Chennai:

Joint secretary R.I. Palani ran the day-to-day affairs of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) here on Wednesday.

As a natural consequence of the Supreme Court’s order on Monday, N. Srinivasan and K.S. Viswanathan cease to hold office as the TNCA president and secretary, and do not have to send in their resignations.

“Resigning from the job is redundant. If we do not meet the conditions as per the Supreme Court order, we naturally do not hold the post any longer,” said an official to The Hindu .

Meanwhile, The Hindu spoke to several former cricketers to seek their views on taking up different roles in the TNCA.

Many of them felt that it would be difficult for them to serve in an honorary capacity. A former State player said, “Cricket is our livelihood. It would be very hard for us to devote so much time to the job of a secretary or any other such post, if there is no monetary compensation.”

He added, “Cricket is our passion, but we also need money to run our families. To avoid conflict of interest, we will not be able to run our coaching academies either.”

The coming days promise to be eventful.
