The International Cricket Council (ICC) have said on Tuesday that fast bowler Graham Onions can replace injured all-rounder Andrew Flintoff in the England squad for the Champions Trophy starting on September 22 in South Africa.

The event technical committee of the ICC Champions Trophy has approved Onions as a replacement for Flintoff.

The 26-year-old Onions is yet to play a One-Day International but made his mark this summer by taking 5-38 and 2-64 on his Test debut against the West Indies at Lord’s and then helped England to regain the Ashes. In the four Ashes Tests, the Durham seamer took 10 wickets and finished as the fourth most successful England bowler behind Stuart Broad (18), Graeme Swann (14) and James Anderson (12).

England plays its first game of the tournament on September 26 against the West Indies at The Wanderers.
