Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was ruled out of next month’s ODI series against England after consulting a specialist and being advised to undergo surgery on the ring finger of his left hand.
Haddin returned to Sydney this week in the wake of Australia’s Ashes Test series loss in England, having missed the third of five Test matches because of the fractured finger.
Cricket Australia’s doctor Trefor James said Haddin would undergo corrective surgery in Sydney on Thursday.
“He will therefore not be available for the limited-overs internationals in England,” James said. “His fitness for the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and the ODI series in India in October and November will be reviewed at a later date.”
Haddin was replaced by Graham Manou for the third Test in England, but returned for the final two matches of the series.
Tim Paine, who has played for Australia A and can open the batting, is likely to keep wickets in the two T20 matches against England and in the seven-match ODI series starting on September 4 at The Oval.
