In the course of his unbeaten 62 against Zimbabwe in the first ODI match on Saturday, Ambati Rayudu crossed the 1000-run mark in ODIs. The Hyderabad batsman needed just 29 innings to get to the milestone and in the process, he became the joint third-fastest among the Indian players to reach the mark.
Rayudu made his ODI debut in 2013 against Zimbabwe in Harare and scored a magnificent 63 not out to enable India win the game. He and Virat Kohli shared 159 runs for the third wicket. After the quick dismissal of Kohli and Raina, he ensured that India didn't have any hiccups and completed the Indian victory.
Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli needed 24 innings each to get to 1000 ODI runs, Navjot Sidhu needed 25 innings to reach that goal. In the case of MS Dhoni, he too needed 29 innings to reach the four-figure mark in ODIs.
In the 32 matches played so far, Rayudu hscored 1014 runs with 124 being his highest at an average of 48.28. Rayudu has so far scored two centuries and six half-centuries. His centuries came against Sri Lanka in 2014 and Zimbabwe in 2015.
