Thingalaya betters 110m hurdles National record

April 25, 2012 01:06 am | Updated 01:06 am IST - PATIALA:

Sidhanth Thingalaya did it once again at the NIS complex.

Returning to the venue that brought him into national limelight in 2010, the Maharashtra athlete bettered his own National record in the 110m hurdles, clocking 13.69s, on the concluding day of the Federation Cup meet on Tuesday.

There could be a dispute whether he had actually bettered the ‘National record' since before coming here he had clocked a National-record-breaking 13.66s in the Australian National championships in Melbourne earlier this month.

That timing was not known to the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) perhaps or else it might come up for ratification at a later time.

The listed National record happened to be the 13.77s that Thingalaya clocked while winning the Open title in Kolkata last year.

The 21-year-old Maharashtra hurdler had hurdled his way to his first National record in the inter-State meet here in August 2010, clocking 13.81. He had been training in Australia much of the time since then.

A 14.16s against a headwind of 3.3m/s on at the beginning of this month showed that he was in good touch and he proved it once again in Melbourne before coming over here.

Thingalaya should get his next chance to go for the Olympic qualification mark (13.60s) during three Asian Grand Prix meets in Thailand next month.
