Sanjay Kumar of Haryana in the boys’ 10000 metres walk and Aakriti of Punjab in the girls’ 5000 metre walk clinched gold in the National youth athletics championships at the Gachibowli stadium on Saturday.

On Friday morning Seema, Himachal Pradesh’s distance runner from Dharamsala, erased Kerala girl Anumol Thampi’s meet and national mark of 10:00.22 with a noteworthy 9 minutes 56.25 seconds.

In the evening, Gurindervir Singh took down the national record in the boys’ 100m final clocking 10.74 seconds.

The Punjab sprinter’s effort bettered Praveen Muthukumaran’s six-year-old mark by 1/100th of a second. Gurindervir equalled the record of Huang Yonglian, winner in the Chinese youth nationals that ended in Nanchang on Thursday. That could be a pointer to Gurindervir’s medal ambitions for the forthcoming Asian Youth Championships at Bangkok, Thailand, next month.
