NADA anti-doping process leaves a lot to be desired

August 29, 2019 10:15 pm | Updated 10:15 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

The NADA team finally landed in the city and was present at the venue for the afternoon session of the of the 59th National inter-State athletics championships on Thursday but it seems the officials were clueless about the sample collection procedure.

While most of the results were average or below-par, Anjali’s impressive run headlined the day’s performances and was perfect for NADA to swing into action, even if two days late. Instead, a DCO simply told the athlete to be ready for providing sample after the race and left her unattended.

Rules say any athlete who is to be tested has to be chaperoned right from the moment the event ends till he/she provides a sample. However, Anjali not just puked and managed a visit to the toilet unattended, she was also left alone with her coach for more than an hour after her race ended. In such circumstances, one wonders how serious NADA actually is about its anti-doping measures.
