Dutee Chand breaks 100m record

Orissa’s Dutee Chand broke the National under-18 record in the girls’ 100m here in the ninth National youth (under-18) junior athletics championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Friday. In the heats, she broke the National and meet record timing 11.8 seconds.

In the boys’ 100m, Tamil Nadu’s Augustine Yesudas beat the meet under-18 record with a 10.79s, but fell short of the national record (10.78s by K. Rane) by a whisker.

Another highlight of the day came from Kerala’s Nayana James, who rewrote the long jump meet record with 5.94m in her first jump.
