The Homakundam at Sri Dhanvantari Arogya Pitam in Walajahpet is perpetually burning because this is a place where almost all gods of the Hindu Pantheon are enshrined. Yagams are conducted for human welfare, peace and prosperity. Sri Muralithara Swamigal founded the Pitam as a temple of solace for all those suffering from ailments.
“It was my mother’s wish that I should build a temple for Dhanvantri, celestial physician,” says Muralithara Swamigal. She was afflicted with cancer and passed away as soon as Maruti Udhavikkarangal Trust was registered, in 1995. It is under this Trust that the temple was built and service to people is happening.
The Pitam has expanded in Kizhpudupettai village in the lap of Nature with shrines for 75 deities — representing Shanmatham — and Mahans, including Sri Mahaperiyava, Shirdi Saibaba, Sri Raghavendra and Ramalinga Vallalar. It has been planned to conduct the 15th Samvatsara celebration in a grand manner, March 13-17. The highlight will be the Tirukkalyanam of 16 Divine Pairs, including Sri Arogyalakshmi-Dhanvantari Perumal, Sri Radha-Rukmini-Sri Krishna, Sri Rajyalakshmi-Sri Chenchulakshmi-Narasimhar, Sri Saraswati-Brahma and Sri Siddi Buddi-Vinayakar. The weddings will take place on March 17, 9-11 a.m.
The 58th jayanti of Sri Muralithara Swamigal will be celebrated with Veda Parayanam, Pujas, Mass prayer, discourses, etc.
On March 16, 10.30 a.m.-1 p.m., Mahadhanvantri Yagam and abishekam will take place to the accompaniment of Mangalavadyam played by over 600 Nagaswara-Thavil artistes. The wedding of Sridevi, Bhoodevi-Srinivasa Perumal will take place, 5-7.30 p.m. The preliminary ritual (Pandakkal) for the mammoth weddings will be conducted on February 22, 6-7 a.m.
