The erstwhile Hamilton Club on State Bank Road in Coimbatore became part of the history of State police on Thursday when Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami opened the refurbished building as Tamil Nadu Police Museum.

Among the exhibits depicting the history of State police, the museum boasts of articles like uniforms of the police in olden days, insignias, police medals and a sword gifted by late Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran praising the services of police. A handwritten note in English left by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the inauguration of All Women Police Station at Gandhipuram on January 27, 2003 has also found place in this category.

The collection of weaponry from the armed forces include a Russian-made torpedo and two surface-to-air missiles presented by the Indian Navy to the State police, a cast iron cannon of a British army regiment used at Fort St. David in Cuddalore and a tank used by the Indian Army in the Kargil war.
