It is September 5, Teacher's Day and Google has created an animated doodle just for India — a spectacle-clad rotating globe with icons representing subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, sports, and music.
Teacher's Day is celebrated in India on the birth anniversary of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar and academician. The practice began in 1962 when he was the President of India.
Several other countries observe Teacher's day as a mark of respect to their educators. In Australia, it's on the last Friday in October, while in the USA, National Teacher Day is on first Tuesday of May. Albania celebrates it on March 7, since the first school to teach in Albanian language was believed to have been founded on that day in 1887.
Brunei (September 23) and Bhutan (May 2) celebrate the birthday of their kings Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck as Teacher's Day.
Just like India, Costa Rica (November 22), Czech Republic (March 28), and Ecuador (April 13), too observe Teacher's Day in the memory of their educator-turned-leaders.
For the rest of the world, Teacher's Day is on October 5 to commemorate the adoption of ILO/UNESCO's recommendation on the status of teachers.
