Lego Jurassic World

Lego has got their video game formula down to the T. While it may seem repetitive if you’ve played all of their franchise games, it is still entertaining. Combine that with dinosaurs from Jurassic World and you have a winner.

  • Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • Price: Approx ₹2800 for Nintendo Switch

What’s it about?

The recipe is simple: take healthy doses of the popular Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises, throw them into a blender with some crazy sauce and you have Lego Jurassic World... plus, throw in a re-telling of the films with a whole lot of slapstick humour, along with its delightful takes on Ian Malcolm, Owen Grady, Dr Alan Grant and the rest of the cast.

Given that the game covers the best movies in the franchises, what they’ve done with it is fun and light-hearted. In a blast from the past, Mr DNA, the cartoon tour guide, makes his comeback here, too.

How does it play?

While all the voice-actors have done a great job, the stars of any Jurassic adventure are, undoubtedly, the dinosaurs. Let’s just get down to the best part of the game. Selecting your dinosaur from a list of those which have appeared in the movie and going on a rampage with it.

In the spirit of Jurassic World’s custom-created dinosaur, the Indoraptor, you can create your very own dinosaur by combining parts and playing prehistoric god yourself. All you need to do is collect Lego amber to unlock that stored DNA within, and you’re good to go.

As a whole, the game is mostly a series of large set-pieces elaborately crafted in Lego to recreate some of the best scenes. The gameplay is simple and easy for kids to jump right into with drop-in, drop-out co-op play, while allowing you to explore Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna in all its blocky glory.

Should you get it?

Kids love dinosaurs, making this a perfect game to pick up with your child and to enjoy the franchises from another perspective.

Plus, on the Nintendo Switch, it’s the perfect game for a long-haul journey.

Superhot

‘When you move, time moves’: That’s the premise of Superhot, a supremely simple game with an intricately deep design. What started off as an entry into an FPS (First Person Shooter) Challenge in 2013 has finally released as a full-fledged game with award potential. A unique concept that has been launched on all platforms, including Virtual Reality, it has now found its perfect home in the Nintendo Switch. Superhot will draw you into endless action.

SUPERHOT
  • Developer + Publisher: SUPERHOT
  • Price: Approx ₹2000 for Nintendo Switch

What’s it about?

Superhot’s plot takes itself literally, as you play an unknown game bootlegger back in the glorious DOS-like days, getting hold of a ‘superhot.exe’ file sent over by a friend. From the get-go, the chat-room from where you received it seems sinister, and once you start, you are pulled further and further into a reality-bending story, which also serves as a good tutorial that introduces all its mechanics to get you prepared for the real battle, the Endless mode. Watch out for that surprise ending — it is a doozy.

How does it play?

The visual design is catchy, comprising fiery-coloured silhouettes in an all-white environment, enhancing gameplay movements.

Superhot may have time-stopping to help you make your decision, but any minute movement can be your last. Some of the game’s best moments involve a blade nearly inches away, or a bullet coming towards your temple. Think slicing oncoming bullets with a samurai sword, then hurling it at the enemy and snatching his gun mid-air and killing two people, all the while vaulting over them in slow motion... it’s all exhilarating, especially when you watch it play back in normal speed, and mentally exclaim ‘I did that!’

The Endless mode is excellent, with waves of enemies coming at you, making you think even more so on your feet.

Should you get it?

If you loved the slow-motion Matrix franchise, Superhot creates an engaging puzzle game around that mechanic.
