Wondering why WhatsApp has stopped working on your old Android or iOS phone? The company says the only way to continue messaging using the app is to buy a new phone. The app is not compatible with Android 2.1 or 2.2 and will not work on iPhone 3GS or devices running iOS 6. Likewise, phones running Windows 7 will not be able to use the app.

The move, it is believed, will let the company continue introducing new features, in terms of security, which rely on the app being used on newer operating systems.

The company is expected to launch more features in its chat app in 2017. Rumoured updates scheduled for the year include a new feature that would allow people to edit or entirely delete messages after they have been sent.
