Cardiac centre for CMC

A cardiac centre will be opened at the Cooperative Medical College, Kalamassery. The decision came at a high level meeting held at Thiruvananthapuram.

The estimated cost of Rs. 4.70 crore required to set up the centre will be raised through MP and MLA funds and from public and private enterprises.

Funds to the tune of Rs. 8 crore needed to set up a super specialty block will also be mobilised in this manner.

Meeting to be convened

A meeting of heads of public and private institutions, chaired by the Chief Minister, will be convened for this purpose.

The Medical Council of India has been approached seeking allocation of 50 seats for MBBS in the Cooperative Medical College.

Besides, efforts are being made to include the college in the list of hospitals eligible for financial assistance from the Prime Minister's relief fund.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K.V. Thomas will coordinate the efforts in the direction at the Central government level.

The meeting also decided to start bus services to the medical college from various parts of the district.

K.V. Thomas, Minister for Cooperation C.N. Balakrishnan, Public Works Minister V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, Excise Minister K. Babu, MLAs Benny Behanan, and Dominic Presentation, District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed, and Cooperative Academy of Professional Education, Kerala, Director K.S. Premachandra Kurup were also present.
