India’s school-leaving system imposes enormous pressure on students to achieve the highest possible marks and score a rank as a mark of excellence. But how scientific is it at determining the progress of the students and identifying excellence? In the wake of the release of the draft National Education Policy 2019, it may be pertinent to wonder if the system needs reform or whether stress is actually a driver of excellence?
