The Deshapriya Park Durga Puja Committee has offered the government to relocate the 88-feet structure at its own cost.

After the stampede-like situation at the Deshapriya Park premises that led to the police blocking access to it, the organisers of the Deshapriya Park Durga Puja Committee are struggling to find a place to preserve the “tallest Durga idol” in the world. The structure is 88 feet tall.

The much-hyped exhibit has not found any place so far even after the organisers have approached the State government in this regard. “We have already offered the structure to the government, but there has been no progress in that matter,” said committee secretary Sudipta Kumar on Saturday.

The organisers said that they have offered the government to relocate the structure at their own cost. Confirming reports that they had urged the government to relocate the idol at Eco Park on the eastern fringes of the city, Mr. Kumar said: “People should have an opportunity to see this structure and we hope that the government considers our request.” Such was the rush of crowd to the venue that the police was forced to block access to the pandal last week. But by then several people were injured and traffic came to a standstill in entire south Kolkata. Later, the police declared that the Puja was closed. Police had lodged an FIR against the organisers of the Puja under Section 188 of the IPC (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
