Visit to Palestine

October 20, 2015 02:36 am | Updated 02:36 am IST

Our President Pranab Mukherjee has done well diplomatically to visit both Palestine and Israel to symbolise the recognition that there is a need for a peaceful settlement of the conflict between the two warring parties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also visit both instead of only Israel. That will assuage the concerns of the Palestinians who are apprehensive of India’s leaning towards Tel Aviv under the current dispensation. The Jewish state has been fanning fire in the region right from 1948, when it unilaterally declared Independence, disregarding a UN resolution. Terrorism in the region owes its presence, in no small measure, to a non-resolution of the conflict between the two unequal parties.
