The Sri Lanka visit

March 17, 2015 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST

It is odd that there is a studied silence on the part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the demand by the Tamils to investigate the alleged crimes against humanity that Sri Lanka committed in the final stages of the war of 2009. Though India may not support any credible international investigation, there is no bar on it asking the Sirisena government to conduct a just and impartial probe into allegations of horrific crimes especially against children, women and non-combatants. Any process that aims to bring about a just and equitable solution to the democratic aspirations of Tamils will be meaningless unless there is a fair investigation.
