The article, by Gen. Ashok K. Mehta, “Nepal quake and the Gorkha bond” (May 15), has provided a new perspective to the India-Nepal bond. The Gorkha link is indeed strong and a time-tested one. It gladdens one that such a bond will not be affected despite the creation of bad blood following the recent quake relief operations. Such articles provide the much-needed balancing act.

The article was a reminder once again of the selfless way in which India reaches out to countries in distress. In Yemen and Nepal, it was the speed with which India took up humanitarian and relief measures that took even the developed world by surprise. In Nepal especially, even the mighty Chinese responded after us. The Indian Army is truly ‘Big Brother’ in a positive sense.
