The farmer’s voice

May 16, 2015 01:07 am | Updated 01:07 am IST

Land is necessary for growth and we must go about acquiring it in a rational way (“The farmer’s ‘mann ki baat’,” May 13). There may be farmers with small land holdings who may be looking for an opportunity to give up farming and would only be too happy to give up their land in return for an assured job. The government must target such farmers by providing them adequate compensation. And for those who want to continue with agriculture, it should provide them with incentives to continue farming.

Many young professionals are also leaving high-paying white collar jobs to take up farming out of passion. Perhaps they can help usher in change in the agrarian sector.
