The audacity of hope

October 22, 2015 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST

Barack Obama is perhaps the only leader privileged to receive the Nobel Prize on the mere hope and trust that he can make contribute to world peace (“ >Obama, nearly a statesman ,” Oct.21). However, the betrayal of that trust and hope manifested itself in West Asia. Mr. Obama was no different from his predecessors; for him too, regime-change was a convenient expedient by which any regime considered inimical to U.S. interests needed to be removed. He failed to learn lessons from the Libya intervention and opened another battle front in Syria against the regime. He does not seem to appreciate the need to rise above his country’s interests.
