Strike by pharmacists

The all-India pharmacy strike (“Pharmacies shut down,” Oct.15) came against the Centre’s intention to regularise the sale of medicines through e –pharmacies, which was certainly not in the public interest. It will be difficult to verify the authenticity of drugs sold through e-pharmacies, which will also promote access to illegal drugs, contributing to drug abuse. The government can resort to e-commerce for electronic items and groceries but not for medicines.
