Any housing project in any part of the world is welcome if it uses minimum (or less) land (editorial, “Dismal progress in social housing,” Sept.1). For, as per the Land Act of India, the basic use of land is for agriculture.
To make cities slum-free, we need to adopt innovative practices and radically change our approach to social housing by ensuring a reduction in cost and construction time. There are also lessons to be learnt from South Korea, which has demonstrated that it is equipped to handle such an issue with good technology and trained manpower.
