Science and data

November 12, 2018 11:25 pm | Updated 11:25 pm IST

The events following the detection of gravitational waves, and data by the LIGO, Scientific Collaboration serve as an example of a synthesis of ideas and their rational evaluation, which is what characterises a scientific approach (Editorial, “Ripples of discord”, November 12). Challenging the validity of the first detection points to the ever ongoing process of questioning established beliefs, which underlies the basis for a progressive society. The Indian scientific fraternity should take inspiration from this and inculcate such a spirit of questioning results and processes.
