Saplings as dowry

June 26, 2018 12:34 am | Updated 12:34 am IST

Reports that around 17,000 trees could be felled in Delhi because of development have depressed many. But that despair has given rise to some optimism on reading the report, “In Odisha, a groom demands a growing ‘dowry’” (June 25). Given that the word “dowry” has a negative connotation, his demand was a pleasant surprise. The groom has exemplified that for any crucial movement such as afforestation, it is the common man who should be the driving force.
