The former Telecom Minister A. Raja’s allegation that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was aware of all key decisions taken on 2G (April 23) cannot be dismissed. It is imperative on the part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the scam to give Mr. Raja an audience. The scam could not have been the handiwork of one person. The country needs to know the truth.

The can of worms opened by Mr. Raja’s 112-page written statement to the JPC has put the UPA government in a spot. Mr. Raja has been consistent in saying that the Prime Minister was in the loop on the 2G deal.
With the PMO and the Finance Ministry distancing themselves from the issue and letting the former Minister play a sad solo, the principle of collective accountability has been thrown to the winds.
