Operation Lotus

November 15, 2019 12:47 am | Updated 12:47 am IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had denied any role in the resignation of 17 MLAs of the Karnataka Assembly, which led to the Congress-JD(S) coalition government losing power in the State; but with 16 of these MLAs now embracing the saffron party, the cat is well and truly out of the bag. ’Operation Lotus’, the name given by the Opposition to the BJP’s game plan to lure MLAs, has clearly been resurrected and all the MLAs who resigned have been promised ministerial berths and also tickets to contest in the same seats that they had held before they submitted their resignations. The BJP’s holier-than-thou attitude stands exposed and it will take plenty of time for this taint to wear away.
