Multiple voices

October 30, 2017 12:03 am | Updated 12:03 am IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing anguish over several voices emerging from within the party is genuine as the BJP is fast turning into an outfit where there are multiple opinions (“Modi rues many voices within BJP”, October 29.

However every time someone puts his foot into his mouth, all that the party high command does is to engage itself in damage control, with party spokespersons generally disassociating the party from the remark. Precious little is done to discipline those who cross the lakshman rekha. This only ends up emboldening other loose cannons who bring the party down several notches in public opinion. At the same time, it is unbelievable that strong leaders such as Mr. Modi and party president Amit Shah are helpless in reining in these unruly elements.
