After its claims of having struck Indian posts across the Line of Control were dismissed by India, Pakistan only embarrassed itself by reportedly flying its jet over Siachen (“Pakistan jet flies over Siachen,” May 25). It would have known very well that New Delhi is well-prepared to meet any aggression. Its Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman saying on record that Pakistan is a “peace-loving country” is laughable as Pakistan has always been a provocateur which has provided safe haven to terrorists.

Pakistan apparently is trying to pull a fast one by claiming that it attacked Indian bases and caused heavy damage to Indian military posts across the LoC (“No attack on Indian posts by Pakistan, says Army,” May 25). Islamabad has also not redeemed itself by reportedly flying jets close to the Siachen glacier and trying to intrude into Indian airspace. The ploy comes a day after the Indian Army said it launched “punitive fire assaults” on Pakistani positions across the LoC in the Naushera sector. The cat-and-mouse game being played out has only escalated tensions and resulted in the mass deployment of troops on both sides of the border. While India has done well to diplomatically isolate Pakistan, it should also ensure that it shows restraint where the situation warrants.
