Kashmir lockdown

October 11, 2019 01:14 am | Updated 01:14 am IST

The more the delay in restoring civil liberties in the Kashmir Valley, the greater the danger of pent-up feelings growing to unmanageable propositions (OpEd page, “In Kashmir, opening a Pandora’s Box”, October 10). When the Emergency was lifted, Indira Gandhi miscalculated the power of the Opposition. The NDA government too may be paving the way for a similar situation in Kashmir, where local leaders who are key to the prevalence of peace could fuel disenchantment. Children who have already lost a precious number of school days, will have no love for a nation that holds them captive for no fault of theirs.
