Combating IS

November 23, 2015 04:05 am | Updated 04:05 am IST

Who created the conditions that gave rise to the Taliban, al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and IS? The answer is the West (“UN authorises members to ‘redouble’ fight against IS”, Nov.22). The world is now having to suffer the consequences. The UN was a mute spectator when Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya were invaded by Western-led forces, their economies destroyed and infrastructure devastated. It seems as if a Third World War-like situation is prevalent. Saudi Arabia and Qatar are also to be blamed for encouraging radicalism which has placed moderate Muslims in an embarrassing situation; they are having to prove time and again that they have nothing to do IS and its ideology or fundamentalism.
