Bullfighting ends

The decision to end the tragic sport of bullfighting, though in Spain, is most welcome (Sept. 26). How can it be called a sport when it's a case of pain and agony for the poor animal?

P.K. Jayanandan,

Kozhikode

Hunting and humiliating animals continue to be in vogue in one form or the other, including in circuses. In the world-famous Mysore Dasara , for instance, a caparisoned elephant is made to carry a gold howdah that weighs a whopping 750 kg and walk in a long procession with other elephants. Can't the howdah be placed on a well-decorated truck and taken out in a procession with the elephants?
