We need not worry too much about the Belt and Road Initiative right now (“India to skip B&R Forum”, May 14). Years later, the full success of this initiative will require India’s participation and China cannot afford to ignore New Delhi. There are strong possibilities that the OBOR’s working will face huge security issues emanating from Pakistan. That will be the moment of truth for China. It must even be prepared to write-off a chunk of the investment if the internal social and security situation in Pakistan is any indication.

India made the right decision of boycotting the B&R Initiative notwithstanding the pressure of left out of the global bandwagon lining up to get a bite of the Dragon’s economic pie. The absence of India, the third largest economy in Asia and the largest nation in South Asia, has taken the sheen out of the meet. The message to China is clear: “Stop muscle flexing and take note of Indian sensitivities”.
