The demise of G.S. Bhargava is a profound loss to Indian journalism. He started his career with Joachim Alva’s Forum in Bombay. His dispatches from Rawalpindi, erstwhile capital of Pakistan, for the Hindustan Times were excellent pieces of reporting from a hostile territory.
A voracious reader and prolific writer, Bhargava authored a number of books giving a ringside view of the events of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He was always a chief and never a boss. Liberal to a fault and with a penchant for professionalism, Bhargava had a fine sense of humour.
