The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was taken out as a procession in Lucknow today. The ashes will be immersed in river Gomti. The BJP plans to immerse the leader's ashes in all major rivers of India.
Vajpayee’s ashes immersed in Sabarmati
The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was immersed in the Sabarmati river by Gujarat Chief Miniister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday. According to the State BJP, the ashes would be immersed iin the Sabarmati, Tapi, Narmada, Saraswati and Mahi rivers and at the Somnath triveni sangam.
India pull back to win third Test against England

President, PM wish people on Id al-Adha

Congress President Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to greet people on the festival. "Eid Mubarak to each and every one of you! May this Eid bring you great joy, peace and happiness."
Little damage reported after Venezuela quake
A powerful earthquake shook Venezuela’s northeastern coast on Tuesday, forcing residents in the capital to evacuate buildings and interrupting a pro-government rally in support of controversial economic reforms. The 7.3 quake was the largest to strike Venezuela since 1900, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. But at a depth of some 76 miles (123 kilometres) it appeared to have caused only limited damage even near its epicenter a few miles off the sparsely populated Cariaco peninsula stretching into the eastern Caribbean.
Four dead in 'Crystal Tower' fire in Mumbai
Four persons were killed and several others injured as a fire broke out on the 12th floor of a high-rise residential building in Mumbai’s Parel area on Wednesday morning. According to BMC officials, of the 20 people rushed to KEM hospital four of them — three male and a female senior citizen — were declared ‘dead on arrival’ and 16 others were stable.
12 dead in shootouts in Rio de Janeiro
At least 11 suspects and one soldier died during shootouts with military personnel and police in greater Rio de Janeiro on Monday as violence erupted in several areas of the city that hosted the Summer Olympics two years ago. The direct confrontations between soldiers and armed traffickers also marked a deepening of the military’s role in Rio’s security. Since the military was put in charge of the state’s security earlier this year, soldiers have mostly played supporting roles to police during operations, such as securing perimeters or setting up checkpoints. On Monday, soldiers were clearly in the lead.
Finally, help reaches Nelliampathy
After two days of inclement weather that made repeated attempts futile, two choppers sent by the Indian Air Force were able to land at rain-ravaged Nelliampathy on Tuesday evening to airlift half a dozen people stranded there and shift them to Kanjikode in Palakkad to ensure them immediate medical relief.
