Voting ends in Bangladesh; 11 killed in election violence

Voting in a tense election to choose a new government in  Bangladesh  ended on Sunday with at least 11 people being killed in poll-related violence amid allegations of manipulations by the ruling Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ghazipur violence: 11 arrested, several detained

Eleven persons were arrested on Sunday and several detained for questioning in connection with the clashes in Ghazipur district of  Uttar Pradesh  where a police constable was killed and several others injured in stone pelting during a protest by members of the Nishad Party.

Veteran filmmaker Mrinal Sen passes away at 95

Mrinal Sen, one of the towering figures of Indian cinema, passed away on Sunday morning at his south Kolkata residence. He was suffering from age-related ailments and suffered a heart attack at 10.30 am.  He was 95.

The body will be kept at a moratorium in the city till his son Kunal Sen returns from abroad.

HIV positive blood donor dies after consuming poison

The 19-year-old blood donor, whose  infected blood was transfused to a pregnant woman  from Virudhunagar district, died at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai on Sunday morning.

He was admitted at the hospital on Wednesday after he tried to end his life by consuming poison at his native Tiruchiluvaipuram village near Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district.

Petrol price cut to its lowest level in 2018, diesel rates at 9-month low

Petrol price on December 30 was cut by 22 paise per litre to its lowest level in 2018 while diesel rates were reduced by 23 paise to a nine-month low. Petrol price in  Delhi  was cut to ₹69.04 per litre from ₹69.26 while diesel rates came down to ₹63.09 from ₹63.32 a litre, according to the price notification of state-owned oil firms.
