Agartala: At least 37 teachers of rural schools in west Tripura have received show cause notices for ‘lacking in duty’. The action followed a surprise visit by officials of the education department, the council, and west Tripura district administration to 84 schools.

“The schools are facing some infrastructure problem, but the main issue is unauthorised absence of teachers. Teachers who were found absent in school hours and those who were not taking classes despite being present were served show cause notices,” an official of education department told newspersons. He said the government has also instituted enquiry against the erring teachers. The surprise visit would continue as per order of the government, he added. Most of the schools are located in areas under the tribal autonomous district council. Senior officials were in the team that inspected the institutions.
