One person was killed and another injured today in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists near Chhurchuriya village in Bihar’s Jamui district, Director General of Police Neelmani said.

Earlier reports said two poll personnel on duty during panchayat polls in Bihar died and two others were injured.

“The poll personnel were going to Chhurchuriya booth on a tractor when the landmine planted by Maoists went off,” Mr. Neelmani said.

The driver of the tractor Arun Mandal died on the spot and a poll personnel who is a local teacher was seriously injured in the blast, he said.

He was admitted to a government hospital in Jamui.

Heavy reinforcements comprising CRPF and Special Task Force of Bihar police cordoned off the area and engaged the ultras in an encounter since morning, Mr. Neelmani added.

Panchayat elections are underway in Jamui.

Maoists have given a call for boycotting the elections.
