State will award the business ideas tenders worth ₹15 lakh

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has launched a mobile application ‘mahaswayam’ and a website of the Maharashtra State Innovation Society, to guide those who want to set up their businesses.

The State on Monday launched its first-ever ‘Maharashtra start-up week’, during which it will select 24 innovative ideas from the 100 that will be presented before experts from the government, and the fields of technology, finance.

The government has chosen education, skill, health, agriculture, clean energy, environment, water and sewage management, smart infrastructure, communication, finance, and cyber security, totalling eight sectors, under the start-up policy.

A total of 2,000 applications were sought, of which 900 registered for the event. Of them, 100 ideas have been chosen for the presentation. Three ideas from each of the sectors will be selected to whom the government will award initial tenders worth ₹15 lakh.

“We are aware that government tendering process gets delayed sometimes. We are ready to adopt a policy to ensure tenders are given to start-ups without any delays. We are eager to use the innovation, capacity and enthusiasm of the youth for the development of the State,” Aseem Gupta, secretary, Skill Development Department, said.

Skill Development Minister Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil said capital, connectivity, and courage are three Cs required for a start-up and Maharashtra has a combination of all three.

“We urge the youth to focus more on providing employment to others than running for a job themselves. We are open to improving ourselves if experts in the field have any suggestions to promote start-ups,” Mr. Nilangekar-Patil said.

The government on Monday signed two memorandums of understanding with the U.S.-based Valley Thought IT Solutions to develop 15 skill development centres. The centres will focus on developing start-ups related to agriculture, health, education, and skill development.
