Panaji: The Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) on Tuesday adjourned to April 2 the hearing on the 2016 BRICS summit food scam after chief secretary Dharmendra Sharma sought another four weeks to complete his probe.
Mr. Sharma said that statements of police officers have been recorded and four witnesses have been examined so far.
On December 14, last year, the GSHRC had asked the chief secretary to submit a report within 45 days after conducting an inquiry and fix accountability on the erring officials.
Lawyer Aires Rodrigues, in his complaint to the GSHRC on October 14, 2016, had said that the contract for a whopping ₹51.6 lakh was given to a local caterer for supply of food to the police personnel on duty for the BRICS summit held in October, 2016. But the contract was sub-let to a roadside contractor who prepared the food in an open space leading to substandard quality, and in an unhygienic condition.
The GSHRC, on October 18, 2016, directed that no payments be made to the caterer.
